I think we’re all aware that despite what we see on social media, no one’s life is as blissful and perfect as their insta-story portrays. We all have stuff to deal with and on some days, keeping it all together can be very challenging.
So, what do you do or where do you go when you want some help, advice, or motivation?
Are you frustrated with a relationship? Anxious or overwhelmed with your current situation? Maybe you’re thinking about therapy or you’ve been to therapy and you’re still kind of in the same place you were a year ago.
Please understand that you’re not alone. And the coaching industry is growing by leaps and bounds because you’re not alone.
If you know little about coaching or aren’t sure if coaching can help you, here are my top 5 reasons why just about anyone can benefit from working with a life coach:
1 – Everyone is working really hard in at least one area of their life.
Relationships, connection and communication, career, education, finances, parenting, work/life balance, self-care, health, divorce, weight loss, retirement, relocation, new business – you get the idea.
Life coaches are not experts in all these areas. Actually, the only expert in your life is you. Only you know what is truly best for you. But a good coach helps you unpack all the “stuff” – thoughts, feelings, beliefs, desires, needs, etc., so that you can get really clear on what you want to create in your life. They also help you take positive action so that what you create brings you joy and fulfillment.
2 – Helps you navigate the new.
Even more than just helping you get from point A to point B, life coaching will help you deal with unforeseen emotions and circumstances that may arise along the way. Life transitions are a big part of our life’s journey. They are exciting, challenging, scary, refreshing, and everything in between.
Are your kids grown and now you and your spouse don’t know what to do or talk about? Maybe you feel called to pursue a new career or business venture but the uncertainty of it all is overwhelming and keeping you stuck? How do you balance life when you’re taking care of an aging parent, a new baby, or an emotional teenager? Maybe you’re recently divorced and are unsure about how to begin dating?
A coach will brainstorm with you, assess your needs, reframe your perspective, and most importantly, listen and guide you every step of the way.
3 – Clarity.
Not only does coaching help you to see your issue from a new perspective, it helps you take a good look at yourself. Your coach should lead you toward a better understanding of your own values and needs. There is no safer and more loving way to do this than with a skillful and compassionate coach who holds your dreams as their highest priority. Creative questions, conversations, collaboration and brainstorming has never been so productive or so energizing!
4 – Actions speak louder than words.
And the results last longer, too. Not to say that words aren’t important. Words are crucial, especially the words we say to ourselves. However, what really creates lasting change is action. Action that allows you to experience the possibility of whatever it is you want more of in your life. Coaching directs your actions in a ways that are comfortable for you but stretches you just enough that you reach your goals more quickly. Coaching provides you steps, support, and accountability.
5 – Because you don’t need therapy.
Life coaching doesn’t dredge up the past. And life coaching doesn’t let you sit in the pain. It does, however, access the past and your feelings about it so we can understand – what’s important to you, the key people in your life, and how to move you forward.
Coaching is a great complement to therapy and many people choose to work with both a therapist and a coach.
Though there is some overlap, the main difference between the two is that in coaching, there is no diagnoses and no pathology. Coaching is process oriented and focuses on results and actions. This process begins by meeting you where you’re at. And where you’re at is perfect because everyone’s path is unique.
If you need help with any relationship, navigating life transitions, resolving conflict or just finding the meaning and purpose in your life, coaching can help you achieve your goals in a way that is often bigger and more profound than you would ever think is possible. It’s productive, it’s exploratory, and it’s also fun.
Life coaching is for individuals, couples, families, and teens and can be done easily in person or over the phone via FaceTime or Skype.
